Ok Tedi Mining Limited (Ok Tedi) has recently signed an extended Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary to continue the engagement of the Special Services Division (Mobile Squads) at its operations in Tabubil.

This agreement reinforces Ok Tedi’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure operating environment while supporting law enforcement in the Western Province.

Ok Tedi’s General Manager for Social Performance and Sustainability, Jesse Pile, said, “This MoU extension and partnership is important for us at Ok Tedi as it emphasises our commitment to community and operational safety. We want to ensure our employees and assets are protected while also supporting our sustainability goals of maintaining peace in our mine-associated communities.”

Pile added, “We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from the Constabulary in Tabubil, Kiunga, Fly River, and across the country in all our engagements. Your support contributes not only to our success but also to the broader development of Papua New Guinea, as we are 100% PNG-owned.”

Acting Commissioner of Police (ACP) Samson Kua highlighted the importance of the extended MoU for security and law enforcement purposes. “The past five years have had their fair share of triumphs and challenges, and we look forward to continuing this partnership with Ok Tedi to achieve our goals for this project,” ACP Kua said.

He also expressed pride in supporting Ok Tedi’s operational ventures to maintain law and order, noting the company’s contributions to local infrastructure, including the construction of Tabubil police single quarters, the Ningerum police barracks with offices and residential housing, and the donation of vehicles to the Constabulary.
