Papua New Guinea is poised to enter a new era of aviation innovation through strategic partnerships with global aviation technology leaders, aimed at modernising the country's air navigation and traffic management capabilities.

NiuSky Pacific announced collaborations with Australia's Skykraft and Italy's ENAV Group that will focus on key areas including Air Traffic Management (ATM), Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM), drone ecosystem development, flight procedure design, Aeronautical Information Services (AIS), Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) digital transformation, training and capacity building, as well as digital and remote tower technologies.

The partnerships were announced in Port Moresby on 31 May 2026 as part of NiuSky Pacific's broader strategy to strengthen and modernise Papua New Guinea's aviation sector through collaboration with leading international technology providers.

The partnership with ENAV Group was formalised through a Letter of Intent signed during Airspace World 2026, establishing a framework for strategic cooperation in air navigation services and aviation innovation.

At the same event, NiuSky Pacific signed a landmark strategic collaboration agreement with Australian aerospace company Skykraft to introduce space-based Air Traffic Management services across Papua New Guinea.

The agreement was signed by Skykraft Chief Executive Officer Michael Frater and NiuSky Pacific Managing Director Graham Blythe, with the signing witnessed by Civil Aviation Minister Wake Goi and First Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation Reuben Daniel.

According to a media release, the partnership positions Papua New Guinea to become the first country in the world to implement a comprehensive space-based Air Traffic Management capability across its national airspace.

The initiative is expected to significantly enhance aviation safety, connectivity, operational efficiency and air traffic management services, particularly across Papua New Guinea's vast remote, mountainous and oceanic regions.

By deploying advanced space-based communications and surveillance technologies, the programme is expected to strengthen situational awareness, improve air navigation services and support safer, more efficient aircraft operations throughout the country.

Through its partnerships with Skykraft and ENAV Group, NiuSky Pacific aims to gain access to next-generation aviation technologies from globally recognised industry leaders. The collaborations will combine technical expertise, operational experience and innovation capabilities to develop joint initiatives and explore new opportunities at both regional and international levels.

Industry observers say the agreements mark a significant step in Papua New Guinea's efforts to modernise its aviation infrastructure while embracing emerging technologies that are reshaping global air navigation systems.

The partnerships also reinforce the country's commitment to strengthening air navigation services and positioning itself as a leader in aviation innovation within the Asia-Pacific region.

As the aviation sector continues to evolve, NiuSky Pacific's latest international collaborations are expected to play an important role in improving aviation safety, connectivity and operational efficiency, while supporting Papua New Guinea's long-term economic and infrastructure development objectives.
