NICTA officers complete public service induction program

A total of 18 officers from the National Information and Communications Technology Authority have been inducted into Papua New Guinea's public service after successfully completing a government induction program aimed at strengthening professionalism and accountability within the sector.

The officers completed the National Certificate 2 in Government – Induction into Public Service, a short course delivered by the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance.

The program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, values and standards expected of public servants, while promoting ethical conduct, accountability and effective service delivery across government agencies.

For NICTA officers, whose responsibilities include regulating and supporting the development of Papua New Guinea's information and communications technology sector, the training provides a deeper understanding of government systems, public sector responsibilities and the principles that underpin public administration.

The induction forms part of broader efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and enhance the performance of public sector agencies through workforce development and professional training.

The 18 officers represent NICTA's first group to complete the program, with additional batches expected to undertake the training as part of the authority's ongoing staff development initiatives.

NICTA said investing in capacity-building programs helps ensure employees are equipped to uphold public service standards while contributing to the country's digital transformation and broader national development objectives.

The authority plays a central role in regulating Papua New Guinea's telecommunications and ICT sector, supporting connectivity, digital infrastructure development and technology-driven economic growth.
