The International Education Agency (IEA) is celebrating its recent successes with its ongoing commitment to education in Papua New Guinea.
The organisation is preparing for its fiftieth anniversary in 2026, which is being marked with new infrastructure and digital innovations for the IEA’s eighteen private education institutions in PNG.
Founded in 1976, the International Education Agency took responsibility for a number of government schools to be run as self-sufficient institutions. Today, the IEA operates 18 schools and vocational colleges across the country.
IEA Board Chair, Marisa Howden, is proud of the work the organisation has achieved in recent years.
“The IEA board is dedicated to delivering the best quality education in PNG,” says Ms Howden. “We have committed more than K80 million in capital works across the country. This will ensure our schools have safe and conducive learning environments that meet the needs of all learners.”

“We are preparing to launch our new internationally accredited curriculum in 2026, with a big focus being put on STEM and technology. Our teachers are continuously undergoing training, and our students are thriving across all grade levels, from ELC to TAFE.”
“Our board continues to ensure the organisation is governed appropriately. Key achievements are the near repayment of the loan debt inherited from previous administrations, whilst self-funding our capital works program,” she said.
IEA CEO Neal Mather agrees, stating that, “the IEA is moving into a new era of operations with the deployment of a ‘wise range’ of digital and online solutions to bring about greater efficiency in all areas of our work.”
Mr Mather is pleased to add that in 2026, “parents will have access to the new CIVICA Daymap portal, a one-stop shop enabling parents to engage directly with their child’s learning. Daymap is widely used in Australian schools, and next year the IEA will be the first organisation to adopt the suite of CIVICA education solutions outside of Australia.”
“The IEA is proud of its significant investment in technology and Internet access across all our schools and colleges. These advancements are designed to enhance the updated curriculum and will support teachers and students in IEA schools across the country. “
“We are very committed to our future-focussed initiatives that will enhance and improve efficiency and engagement for our staff and clients. We look forward to sharing more about our success as a PNG-owned education provider as part of IEA’s 50th Anniversary in 2026.”
