Issue 4

By the time you pick up Issue 4 2025 of your PNG Business News, the year is all but passed -- but we have you, dear readers and patrons, to thank for another awesome year, as evidenced by this massive 164-page magazine that you can peruse for your pleasure.

We lead off, as usual, with Michael McWalter's commentary, "From First Oil and Gas to LNG" starting on page 10. Mick continues his story of how the first oil and gas production came to be in PNG, focusing on the Gobe and Moran oil fields, delivering the product to Australia for processing, and the discovery of the Elk/Antelope gas field. It's so in-depth, you can't afford to not read each of the pages of his article.

On Page 28, we read about how Prime Minister James Marape Reaffirms PNG's Global Commitments at the United Nations' recent 80th General Assembly. The PM aligns his message with PNG's 50th independence anniversary last September and the country's pledges ahead of the COP30 (the UN Climate Change Conference) in Belem, Brazil, focusing on nature-based climate solutions.

Meanwhile, on page 36, the story details the Asian Development Bank's forecast of the Pacific Region's growth accelerating in 2026 on its mineral and petroleum strength, as the Manila-based regional lender sees strong resource output from PNG as the region's largest economy.

Then, on page 82, we give you one of several recaps of the recent Petroleum & Energy Conference, where Petroleum Secretary David Manau confidently declared that oil and gas exploration in PNG "has a future." The challenge, the minister emphasised, is in shaping direction through strategic policies, partnerships, and investment frameworks.

These and scores of other stories across PNG's business sectors adorn our pages in this issue. Meanwhile, may your lives be adorned with health, wealth and happiness as we celebrate the coming holidays. From all of us at PNG Business News, have a blessed season and a prosperous New Year!
