Australia's High Commissioner Engages Port Moresby's Business Community

The Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (POMCCI) recently organized a ‘Meet and Greet Networking Event’ with Australia’s new High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, His Excellency John Feakes.

The event took place on Tuesday, 16th April, at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby, drawing participants from the Australia Trade and Investment Commission, the business sector, industrial stakeholders, and partners.

Esteemed for his distinguished career with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Feakes brings a wealth of international experience, having previously served as Australia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Kenya, and as Deputy High Commissioner and Counsellor in Papua New Guinea.

His diplomatic endeavors have extended to the United States of America and the Philippines, where he played a pivotal role in advancing Australia’s diplomatic interests.

In an exclusive interview, His Excellency Feakes expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the dynamic members of the Port Moresby business community. He commended the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry for hosting the event and expressed hope for continued engagements in the future.

“It was fantastic to meet so many of the dynamic members of the Port Moresby business community. I am very grateful to the Chamber for hosting the event, which I hope is the first of many,” he added.

His appointment as Australia’s High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea underscores the enduring relationship, deep-rooted ties, and mutual respect shared by the two nations, exemplified by their comprehensive strategic and economic partnership.

Mr Feakes’ presence marked another successful network connection hosted by POMCCI. Attendees engaged in conversations, exchanged business cards, and shared insights and experiences.
