ExxonMobil Names Peter Larden as Managing Director for Papua New Guinea

ExxonMobil has named Peter Larden, current president of ExxonMobil Canada Limited, to serve as managing director of ExxonMobil Papua New Guinea (PNG) Limited. Current managing director Andrew Barry will serve in a new position as vice president of Global LNG Marketing for ExxonMobil in Singapore, with responsibility for LNG marketing activities around the world.

Larden joined ExxonMobil in Melbourne, Australia, in 2005 and has held progressively senior technical, supervisory and planning roles in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Africa. He participated in the PNG LNG project, based in Melbourne from 2009 to 2010, visiting the country on several occasions. As president of ExxonMobil Canada he was responsible for the company’s production, development and exploration interests in Atlantic Canada and Western Canada.

“Peter is well prepared to work with the people of PNG to continue to create exceptional shared social value,” said Barry. “His work will generate business opportunities for PNG companies and help raise living standards, propelling the economy of PNG forward.”

Since being assigned to PNG in 2014, Barry has presided over several key milestones. Under his leadership ExxonMobil PNG successfully transitioned the PNG LNG project from development to production, achieving status as a world class operation renowned for reliability and strong safety performance. Other activities include the acquisition of InterOil and exploration successes at the P’nyang and Muruk gas fields. Barry stated “Throughout my time, I am proud to have had the opportunity to lead the business through startup and shaping the foundation for upcoming expansion.”

Barry has also overseen ExxonMobil PNG’s workforce grow from under 50 percent Papua New Guinean during construction to nearly 90 percent today.
