Australia PM Cancels Visit

By: PNG Business News November 16, 2020

In the midst of the current political instability in Papua New Guinea, Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison has cancelled his trip.

This comes after high profile ministers led by Deputy Prime Minister Sam Basil have defected to the opposition led by Belden Namah. PNG’s Foreign Affairs Minister Patrick Pruaitch and Attorney-General David Steven also crossed over to the other side.

Morrison was supposed to stop by PNG after his Japan trip but this will not happen. He pushes through with his Japan trip as he meets with the new Japanese PM Yoshihide Suga.

It is revealed that Morrison was supposed to stop by PNG in spite of the political instability but PNG James Marape asked him to defer his visit.
