PNG Air wishes to advise the travelling public and the people of Wewak that flights to and from Wewak may be suspended if there is no immediate improvement in the protection of airport facilities, infrastructure, and company property.
On April 21, 2026, during the morning hours, there was an attempt to use slingshots; however, no damage was caused to the aircraft or company property. This follows an earlier incident on or around February 28, 2026, during which damage was caused to terminal infrastructure and PNG Air property.
PNG Air is committed to providing safe, reliable, and consistent air transport services to Wewak and surrounding areas. However, the continuation of these services depends on a secure operating environment supported by a positive and proactive community.
We respectfully call on community leaders, authorities, and residents of Wewak to work together to ensure the safety of airport infrastructure, passengers, and airline personnel. Protecting these services is a shared responsibility and is vital to maintaining connectivity for business, healthcare, education, and family travel.
PNG Air thanks the public for their understanding and support.
