Issue 3

Papua New Guinea’s resources and business sectors are entering a period of significant change, and the latest issue of PNG Business News explores the developments shaping the country’s economic future.

Leading Issue 3 is our cover story on Sheraton’s debut in Papua New Guinea, with the opening of the 394-key Sheraton Port Moresby Stanley Hotel & Suites. Located in the capital’s central business and government district and connected to Vision City Mega Mall, the new hotel marks Marriott International’s second property in PNG and a major expansion for the Sheraton brand in the Pacific.

The issue also examines Prime Minister James Marape’s vision for a new era of resource development. Speaking at PNG Resources Week 2026, Marape outlined the government’s push to secure greater national returns from major mining and petroleum projects while preserving PNG’s attractiveness to international investors.

Mining Minister Solen Loifa details major regulatory, legislative and digital reforms designed to strengthen investor confidence and ensure resource development delivers lasting benefits to communities. Under the theme PNG Resources Beyond 50, the reforms signal the government’s focus on responsible, long-term investment and sustainable growth.

Our regular column also takes a closer look at one of PNG’s most important resources. In “Liquefied Natural Gas – LNG and PNG,” columnist Michael McWalter explains what LNG is, how natural gas is transformed into a liquid, and why the resource is more complex to produce, handle and supply than conventional petroleum products.

From hospitality and investment to mining, petroleum and economic policy, Issue 3 2026 brings together the people, projects and ideas shaping PNG’s next chapter.
