The Papua New Guinea Chamber of Resources and Energy (PNGCORE) has commended K92 Mining Inc. on its recent leadership succession and congratulated John Lewins on his appointment as non-executive chair, effective 1 October 2026, recognising his outstanding contribution to the company’s growth and Papua New Guinea’s mining industry.
PNGCORE Executive Director Richard Kassman said Lewins had played a transformative role in Papua New Guinea’s mining sector since joining K92 in 2016 as its first chief operating officer and becoming chief executive officer in August 2017.
“Under John’s leadership, the Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province has evolved into a Tier 1 asset and an important contributor to the national economy, translating investment in Kainantu into employment, skills development and economic opportunities for Papua New Guineans.
“We are particularly pleased that John remains vice-president of PNGCORE and will continue representing the industry in engagements with the government, regulators and other stakeholders. His experience and sustained commitment to Papua New Guinea will remain valuable to the chamber and the wider industry.”
PNGCORE also congratulated David Medilek on his appointment as chief executive officer and director, effective 1 October 2026. Previously K92’s president and chief operating officer, Medilek brings continuity and extensive knowledge of the company to his new role.
“We welcome David’s appointment and look forward to working with him and John as K92 advances its next phase of growth and its contribution to Papua New Guinea’s development,” Kassman said.
