Team Ok Tedi Takes 2019 Emergency Response Cup
OK Tedi mining safety and emergency response team was declared the overall winner for the 2019 extractive industry emergency response challenge held in Port Moresby. The three-day event was hosted by the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum.
This year’s 2019 Extractive Industry Emergency Response challenge had 11 teams from all the mining and oil companies in the country. The 11 converged on the nation’s capital for the second emergency response challenge which includes various emergency and safety events such as rope rescue, road accident rescue, confined space rescue, fire fighting, and multi-casualty rescue.
PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum executive director Professor Albert Mellam in his closing remarks congratulated everyone for making this event a bigger and successful occasion and for being part of the event which aims to promote safety in the workplace especially to the professionals who ensure mining workers safety is guaranteed.
Prof Mellam said this event is an important occasion where we have safety and emergency professionals from all over the country participating in the this year’s event and we are looking forward for a bigger challenge in 2021.
“The successful staging of this event is a testament to the success of all the participants who made it here and thanks to all the sponsors who made it possible for this event a success,” he said.
The companies that took part this year are Harmony gold mine, K92, Lihir, PNG LNG, Oil Search, Ramu Basamuk, Ramu Kurumbukari, Ok Tedi and Porgera gold mine. The overall winner for the 2019 Extractive Industry Emergency Response challenge cup was Ok Tedi and consolation prizes for different category was awarded to other teams.
The Ok Tedi team gave credit back to their management for the support and mentoring given during the course of the event. The 2017 extractive industries emergency response challenge which was held in Madang was won by Ramu Nico mine.
