Prov Govt Open For Wafi-Golpu Talks
Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu has confirmed that negotiations for K17 billion kina Wafi-Golpu mining has commenced.
Mr Saonu said negotiations will also include the effort to assist landowners to sort the registration of the incorporated land groups (ILGs) for benefit sharing.
This follows the recent signing for the project in Port Moresby in May.
Mr Saonu was pleased with the outcome of his fight to ensure his people benefit.
He said after going through the court, a signing a memorandum of understanding was signed between himself and the Mining Minister Johnson Tuke to allow due process.
“We are now working on getting the landowners ILG in place and we will go with individual clans so that we identify genuine landowners instead of the association which do not own the land."
