Ok Tedi Commemorates Women And Girls In Science Day
The Ok Tedi Women’s Network conducted school talk sessions at three schools in Tabubil to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on Tuesday, February 11.
Members of the Ok Tedi Women’s Network (OWN) spoke about their jobs at Ok Tedi, the challenges and opportunities, and the studies they completed that enabled them to become what they are today.
“The OWN school talk program is aimed at building awareness and confidence of young female students around what’s possible for their future under STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) based studies in our increasingly technological society.
“The program involves female role models in technical occupations in Ok Tedi sharing their personal stories about what they did to get to where they are now.” said Tracey Hart, OWN chairperson.
Ok Tedi Mining Limited managing director Peter Graham said “OTML is an equal opportunity employer and we are working to address the gender imbalance in the Ok Tedi workforce and to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace.”
“Encouraging girls to consider studying STEM subjects early in their schooling is important to open access to exciting opportunities in mining,” he said.
Graham added: “We appreciate the important role that the Ok Tedi Women’s Network is playing in making more visible the opportunities for women in mining and in promoting a more diverse and inclusive workplace.” Continue reading at https://postcourier.com.pg/ok-tedi-commemorates-women-and-girls-in-science-day/ | Post Courier
