Newcrest Aims For Constructive Engagement With Landowners As Way Forward
A further discussion has been held with the Lihir landowners yesterday.
This was involving former boss Craig Jetson and incoming replacement Craig Jones, with constructive engagement on the principles to guide the relationship going forward.
This discussion was held following the call by 13 tenement block leaders to reverse its decision on the alleged removal of Mr Jetson or they will shut the operation from Kunaye airport to the mine and process plant.
However Mr Jetson has since made it clear that it is time for him to move on from Papua New Guinea, but indicated that he is committed to advancing the Lihir agreements review before he does so.
According to an update provided by Newcrest yesterday, it was again explained that Craig Jetson would lead on LAR for the transition period.
The landowners indicated that they are ready to engage with the CEO when he visits next week.
This is contrary to the position expressed on this point in correspondence from one of the landowners. All is calm at Lihir and discussions remain productive, it is reported.
