Joyce Takes Up Westpac Board Chairmanship
Westpac PNG has announced the appointment of Stan Joyce, as its new board chairman. Westpac PNG chief executive Brett Hooker stated that “in light of Stan’s recent announcement to retire from full time work, we are pleased that he is happy to continue to be a valuable contributor to our business – as he has done for the business sector for so many years here in PNG – and to step into the chairman role”.
Mr Joyce is a well-known personality in the local business community with over 30 years’ experience in the food, beverage and manufacturing industries both in PNG and internationally. He joined the Westpac PNG board in February 2016.
Stan was previously the managing director of SP Brewery, a subsidiary of the Heineken Company. His long history and contribution to PNG’s business sector was recognised in 2011 when he received the Logohu award, which recognizes distinguished services to PNG.
He is also a member of the ‘Companion of the Order of the Star of Melanesia’ (CSM) for distinguished services to PNG and Melanesia and the Honorary Consul for The Kingdom of The Netherlands. Mr Hooker said: “As Papua New Guinea’s first bank, we are also one of the first businesses to be established that continues to operate here since 1910.
“So we’ve been around for a long time and we have acquired a wealth of knowledge about business in this country. “Therefore, Stan’s appointment to lead our board is an example of how we continue to acquire local knowledge and we are excited that he is bringing all of that insight and experience into our board which will no doubt make a difference to our business.”
Mr Joyce said: “I am pleased that the board has confidence in me to lead them. Westpac is a strong business; I’ve been involved as a board director for three years so I look forward to continuing that relationship as chairman.”
Other board members include Westpac representatives Kip Hanna and Brett Hooker (Westpac PNG chief executive) along with independent directors Michelle Hau’ofa and Tamzin Wardley.
