ICT Roadmap Launched
The Minister for Communications and Information Technology Timothy Masiu has launched the country’s ICT roadmap during the opening of the new NICTA Punaha ICT Haus in Port Moresby on Friday.
Mr Masiu said this is a framework that will enable his sector to monitor and assess current trends and development in the sector.
“Therefore, enabling us to identify and address any policy and legislative gaps that are necessary to guide development in the ICT sector.”
“I want to stress on the need for capacity building within our key institutions that deliver services to our people,” he said.
Mr Masiu said it is common knowledge that ICT is changing the way governments and businesses deliver goods and services in the whole world today.
“I think Papua New Guinea is yet to reach that stage where our public service and people can ICT responsibly to enhance their skills and knowledge and increase performance,” said Mr Masiu.
“In reality we want our citizens to be able to know how best they can use digital technology when doing business, in education or in the day to day work or delivery of services to our people.”
Mr Masiu said his ministry is the arm of the government that is mandated to formulate policies on ICT development and has the potential to increase the use of digital technology in the country.
