Hides gas company to expand business
Hides Gas Development Corporation (HGDC) is eyeing to partner with an internationally recognized engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company to deliver up to ExxonMobil’s expectation.
Chairman Libe Parindali made this remark last week while congratulating his directors and ExxonMobil for successfully doing business in the industry for 10 years.
Mr Parindali said the last 10 years has not been easy for the company, however, with the help of a few people including the late Anderson Agiru, the company today employs more than 2000 people.
He said the business today employs 1500 employees apart from the 600 men and women who work as security personnel including another 450 who operate the camp’s catering business.
“There are 20 per cent expatriates and 80 per cent Papua New Guineans. We started off our business with labour hire only until we partnered with ExxonMobil where we have helped with construction and other projects.
We have grown over the years.
Our challenge is working in the community, our people’s attitudes they don’t appreciate us because there is not enough money to spread out to the communities so they come and stop every single work we do.
They shut the project down one to two days,” he said.
“Our future, 10 years on we want to partner with an internationally recognised EPC for delivery and construction that we haven’t delivered to standard so that is the challenge and that is the future.
My board and I have decided that, this is what we want to take on and we have the vision that one day we will partner with an internationally recognised EPC company to help deliver on Exxon’s expectations in the PNG LNG upstream and partner with other likeminded LANCO companies from the top to the downstream to add value to what we have,” Parindali said.
