Energy Supplier Positive About Future Within PNG
Papua New Guinea’s fuel and lubricants supplier, Puma Energy is positive about the future of Papua New Guinea and is committed to serve the people, says Hulala Tokome.
However, it did not ruled out impacts of Coronavirus disease-19 (Covid-19) would have on the supply chain if it infiltrates in a longer term but, stated there are challenges ahead.
Puma Energy Country manager Mr Tokome when asked about domestic supply, he acknowledged it had impacted oil prices.
“China is the biggest refining center in Asia and they have seen many domestic refineries reduce production or shut down along with a sizable reduction in diesel and petrol demand as they contain the spread of the virus,” said Mr Tokome.
He said the restriction on travel is quite large and affects air travel and road travel hence, impacting jet fuel prices for aircrafts and diesel and Petrol consumption for vehicles.
He said they have the storage facilities to meet all of PNG’s fuel requirements and we have tested our business continuity plans and have Pandemic preparedness plans in place.
“What’s also great about having the refinery right here in PNG, is that we are self-sufficient in producing our very own PNG Made fuel and gas requirements of which we also have storage facilities in the country that provide stock cover for up to three months,” he said.
