Eastern Highlands To Take Lead In Agriculture, Says Numu
Rescue could be on the way for the stagnant upland rice and mushroom farming projects in the Eastern Highlands Province under the new China-Aid projects launched in Goroka last week.
Governor Peter Numu said the China-Juncao technology partnered investments in the two projects under a long partnership program but had stagnated due to continuous political interferences.
At the launching of the China-Aid projects in Goroka, Mr Numu thanked the Chinese government and the Fujian province for investing a lot in EHP in the past 22 years.
He said despite the slow progress in agriculture, his government will work closely with Juncao technology and make sure that China-Aid project on lin-grass and upland rice farming will advance to the next level.
“We will expend this program throughout Eastern Highlands Province and other neighbouring provinces to accelerate progress in the 2030 agenda for sustainable development,” Mr Numu said.
He said it is also a challenge for the EHP government and Department of Agriculture to educate locals on Juncao technology with its lin-grass (mushroom) and upland rice farming because the projects require less effort with much benefits apart from coffee farming.
