Bank boosts theatre program with K8000

Bank South Pacific in empowering youths in the community presented K8000 to support the Port Moresby Arts Theatre (MAT) to stage its 2019 Moresby Youth Arts Programme (YAP).

The six week Youth Arts Programme will involve Secondary school students and youths in the National Capital District to perform short plays on selected social themes about life and politics presented by NGOs.

“Building confidence and responsibility among the youth will contribute to nation building, and we are pleased to support a program that essentially thrives to entertain, educate, and create awareness for everyone,” says BSP corporate sponsorship manager, Amelia Minnopu.

Upon receiving the cheque Moresby Arts Theatre marketing manager Andrew Kuliniasi thanked BSP saying “With this generous support, it will assist in extending our work with schools and young people in dramatic arts training to increase participating schools”.

“Theatre help brings students a more hands-on learning environment.

“It’s more experiential than bookish. We believe that exposure to the creative process can have a positive impact on student’s ability to create and be more confident in front of an audience,” Mr Kuliniasi said.

The program is set to begin on July 22 and end on August 30 where the participating students will attend MAT in Weeks One and Two and are then put into ‘troupes’ that then produce their own short plays.

The students work on their plays for three weeks and then return to MAT in Week Six to perform in front of an audience and the judging panel.
