ANZ Lae construction due to begin next month
Construction of the new ANZ Lae corporate centre is expected to start in the next months says ANZ PNG Country Head Mark Baker.
Mr Baker addressed ANZ clients and business houses in Lae early this week about the bank’s effort to establish the second corporate centre in Lae apart from its Waigani corporate centre in Port Moresby.
Mr Baker is hoping the work will start in the next few months and he anticipates it should be completed after 12 or 18 months.
Meanwhile, ANZ Lae’s corporate center is located within Nambawan Super Haus until the completion of their two storey corporate centere building. “It would be a new building branded ANZ like what we did in Port Moresby and would be doing for Goroka as well.
“The important thing for us is – just because people are seeing the branch changing and we still want the general public to see ANZ branding thus giving them comfort that we have not left PNG; we are just changing our focus,” Mr Baker said.
He added that they are committed in the future growth of the country. The Port Moresby, Lae and Goroka corporate centres will be the only three corporate centres while the five provinces ANZ is currently in will not have a branch.
Mr Baker further explained that all ANZ corporate customers in those five centres will be accessing a Kina Bank branch to do their transactions with the current transition taking place between the two banks.
“All ANZ corporate customers will be able to go through a Kina Bank branch and there would be an ANZ counter for them to transact into their ANZ accounts through the Kina branch,” he said.
This is through what is called network extension partnership (NEP) which customers can do basic customer cash deposit and withdrawals as well as cheque deposit and withdrawals from their ANZ accounts.
