America tenders for power project in PNG
The United States of America (US) has called for international bids to undertake its share of the five-nation electricity project for PNG that was announced in the wake of APEC 2018.
The $US60 million tender opened on November 19 and will close January 29 next year.
US Ambassador to PNG, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands, Erin Elizabeth McKee, said, when the bidding and tendering takes place, more progress will be seen. “That is the $US60 million contribution that is under way now,” she said.
“I hope that US companies that have interest in doing this work will be highly competitive.
But it is open to international bidding so we’ll see what the outcome is. “We post everything in the interest of transparency, competition and fair outcomes, both for PNG, high quality, best price and also for the United States.”
Other partners in the electricity project that is aimed at securing 80 per cent of PNG by 2030 are, PNG Power, governments of PNG, New Zealand, Japan and Australia.
